Bismuth is a two piece band founded in January 2012 consisting of Yuri Landman & multi-instrumentalist Arnold van de Velde (ex-Feverdream, Neon Rainbows, Eklin).
The two play on an interesting collection of instruments, stalled out as an impressive exhibition. As might be easily misjudged, the result is not just random experimentation, but highly rythmic music with a dancable vibe. A mixture of experimental noise rock, dance and gamelan music.
In their short existence Bismuth has played shows in NL, DE, CH, SV and RU on festivals such as B-Sides, de-Affaire, SKIF and shared stages w/ acts like Thurston Moore’s Chelsea Light Moving, Lee Ranaldo, Bang on a Can, Dan Deacon, Zs, Telepathe, Nü Sensea, Helved Rüm, MSHR, Neon Rainbows, Psychic Ills, Puin + Hoop, World Dirtiest Sport (Trumans Water), Believo, Sky Needle, Mad Nanna, Excepter and others.
Wessel van Hulsen (Daily Indie) on their performance at Melkweg, Amsterdam:
”It’s musical art being created in front of your eyes. I’m fascinated until the last second.”
Katrien Schuermans (Gonzo Circus) on their performance at Incubated 013, Tilburg:
”Sounds are being recorded, played back and in the meantime another (home build) instrument is played. The result is a cacophony where you sometimes can discover a beautiful drum pattern and a tasteful melody. These pieces can be best experienced as an art piece.”
